Maestros Leadership plans to plant 5000 trees under the Ma-Green Project in Nsanje district before end of December this year. Lipenga said the project aims at enhance community resilience to floods and other ecological and climate change effects with Nsanje being the target area for this phase. “We have four objectives which are: to train and motivate 500 plus young people to advocate for climate action; to plant 5000 plus trees in flood prone areas; to promote clean and renewable energy enterprises by locals; and to establish partnership with organisations working towards building a healthier planet,” said Lipenga.
Lipenga added that this offers an opportunity to hand over to future generations a world that is more stable, healthier planet, fairer societies and more prosperous economies.
“Floods are seen as threats to productivity and survival of human beings and other living things. As such there has been a growing interest by many people, Maestros to take part in helping out deal with the problem before it actually happens and not after,” explained Lipenga.
He further said Maestros Leadership has partnered with the department of forestry, Nsanje district commissioners’ office and chiefs to make sure that the Ma Green Project yield its intended purpose in district.
